About the Project
Project PREM-AXIS BANK FOUNDATION (PREM-ABF) is a core programmatic initiative of the People's Rural Education Movement aimed at addressing the root causes of poverty through integrated, community-led interventions. Collaborating with the Axis Bank Foundation, recognized as one of our "Esteemed Partners," allows PREM to scale its efforts significantly. The project focuses on ensuring long-term financial independence for Adivasi, Dalit, and Fisher folk communities by transitioning them from subsistence living to sustainable economic stability.

Key Strategic Interventions
1. Sustainable Agriculture & Market Linkages
A significant component of this work involves empowering farmers by training them in sustainable, organic agriculture techniques.
• Capacity Building: We provide comprehensive agriculture training to farmers, focusing on increasing yield without compromising ecological health.
• Market Access: To ensure the longevity of these interventions, the initiative focuses on establishing strong market linkages. This allows farmers to market their products effectively, transforming their agricultural output into a reliable source of income.
2. Women Empowerment: The Grihini Training Model
Supported by the Axis Bank Foundation, PREM implemented the unique "Grihini Training" program to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among rural women.
• The Approach: Young married women participate in 20 days of intensive training covering life skill management, income generation activities, preventive health measures, and early childhood education.
• Holistic Curriculum: The training goes beyond economics, teaching communication skills, risk management, and how to access government schemes and services.
• Governance: A key goal is to empower women to take active participation in local self-governance and democratic institutions.
Impact: Transforming Rural Economies
The collaboration between PREM and the Axis Bank Foundation has yielded measurable results in livelihood generation and social inclusion:
• Scale of Training: Approximately 10,636 women from PREM’s operational areas have undergone Grihini Training.
• Economic Independence: These women are now involved in various individual and group income generation activities, enabling them to meet household needs with their own income.
• Social Voice: Beneficiaries are capable of raising their voices in village and Gram Panchayat level meetings, effectively participating in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
• Wider Reach: This project contributes to PREM's wider network impact, which has touched over 2,000,000 lives across Odisha and neighboring states.
