About the Project
Project Overview At People’s Rural Education Movement (PREM), our primary objective is to promote and protect the rights of children among marginalized communities. The Bal Vikas initiative focuses on the holistic development of children from Adivasi (indigenous), Dalit, and Fisher folk communities through a Child Focused Community Development (CBCD) approach. We place a strong emphasis on innovation to meet the needs of these communities, ensuring that education, healthcare, and rights are accessible to the most vulnerable.

Key Focus Areas
1. Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) PREM operates a Mother Tongue Based Multi-Lingual Early Childhood Resource Center (MT ML ECE). This resource center serves as a learning hub and information center that:
• Develops teaching and learning materials for tribal areas to be used in ICDS centers.
• Provides guidance on integrating mother-tongue-based education into the existing Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program.
• Disseminates information on government schemes and policies related to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
2. Quality Education We are committed to providing English Medium Quality Education to tribal children, ensuring they have the skills to compete in the modern world while respecting their cultural roots14.
3. Child Protection & Rights We actively work to combat systemic issues facing children. PREM collaborates with the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) and other partners to organize consultations on the prevention of child marriage and child labor. In November 2021, we brought together over 120 experts, government officials, and activists to strengthen child protection networks.
4. Adolescent Empowerment A key component of our child-focused work is Empowering Adolescent Girls. We create avenues for Adivasi girls to build leadership skills and secure their futures.

Our Impact: Transforming Young Lives
Through our network and community-based interventions, we have achieved significant milestones in child welfare:
• Education Support: 100,000 children have received education support through our programs.
• Focus on Girls: We prioritize gender equality, with 60% of the children receiving support being girls.
• Professional Placement: 6,000 children and youth from our programs have successfully secured placements.
• Leadership: 39,338 youth have undergone leadership training.
